The LIVR Hoax: Everybody's Favorite New Drunkbro App Is Fake

Yesterday, the developers of an app called LIVR began cold-calling tech writers. The pitch was fun! A social network you can only access when you're drunk, thanks to a breathalyzer accessory. If it seems like the platonic ideal of SXSW catnip, that's because it was engineered to be exactly that. LIVR is a hoax.

A New Defense Department Satellite Shoots Out Smaller Sats

The unfolding drama between Russia and the Ukraine along the Crimean peninsula is developing, rapidly and unpredictably—certainly not in-sync with the orbits of our overhead surveillance assets. But if we could somehow get a few purpose-built (and presumably rapidly-prototyped) cube sats up there, the US Air Force could place extra eyes in the sky on-demand, and keep a closer watch on what's happening on the ground. And that's where Northrop Grumman's new Modular Space Bus comes in.

Phew, Massachusetts Will Make Upskirting Illegal After All

After this week's head-scratching Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling that said the state's Peeping Tom laws didn't make it illegal to take creepshots in public places, the state's lawmakers hurriedly approved new legislation banning the act. The AP states the new law penalizes anyone who "photographs, videotapes or electronically surveils" another person's sexual or intimate parts without that person's consent, carrying a 2.5 year, $5,000 penalty; double if the victim is under 18 years old. The bill will reach Gov. Deval Patrick today, and he's vowed to sign it. Finally, some sense. [AP]
