Stealers Wheel: Stuck In The Middle With You

Apr 22, 1:00AM

So this video. There's a lot to see here. Some gross eating. Some crazy makeup. And the clothes. Wow. Off the bat I just want to say that I inspected closely and the drummer is wearing a shirt. It's flesh-colored, but it's there. "Stuck in the Middle" is off Stealers Wheel's debut, self-titled album from 1972 and it's just catchy, okay? There are some crazy 70s shoes and delicious looking pastries here, but don't be fooled. The bell bottoms and gluttony will get you eventually. [Spotify, Amazon, iTunes] More »

Apr 21, 8:00PM

There was lichen on some trees near El Malpais National Monument in north west New Mexico on January 14, 1987. No, seriously there was. It's Only Reasonable To Think That This Russian Volcano Looks Like Mordor

Apr 21, 7:00PM

The Plosky Tolbachik volcano in Kamchatka, Russia is going kind of crazy this month. And Live Journal user Lusika33 has been following the eruptions from land and air. It's pretty amazing to think that these rivers of lava are flowing right now. It seems like shooting from the helicopter may have been kind of scary for Lusika33, but it can't be more intense than standing in the volcano. [EnglishRussia] More »

When Was The Last Time You Really Unplugged?

Apr 21, 6:00PM

I hear a lot of people talking about how nice it is to go on vacation and "just unplug for awhile." They say that taking a break from their devices helps them refocus. Which makes sense! Except I already know what a great time they had on their vacations because they posted a steady stream of photos throughout, or texted me after they went to surfing lessons/wine tasting. The last time I was totally unplugged was during a camping trip last summer and it was only for a couple of days. When was the last time you really went off grid? Revisit simpler times below. The Crazy Accurate Thermal Images That Saw Dzokhar Tsarnaev Through a Boat Tarp (Updated)

Apr 21, 1:18AM

There was no small amount of technology that went into the capture of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzokhar Tsarnaev, but perhaps none was more impressive than the helicopter-mounted, forward-looking infrared camera that confirmed once and for all that there was someone hiding in a boat in Watertown, Massachusetts. And that he was almost certainly Dzokhar Tsarnaev. More »

Watch This Poor, Abused Washing Machine Go Completely Insane and Explode

Apr 21, 1:15AM

Your washing machine is kind enough to handle your laundry without a complaint. For that it deserves respect. Aussie50 has no such respect. Watch it fail. More »

The Descendents: Myage

Apr 21, 12:00AM

When I was in highschool, I became a bassist. Not for love of the four-stringed beast; that came later. No, it's just that everybody needs a bassist and I had no room for drums. Like any attention-starved adolescent, I was always looking to show off, and my taste in punk evolved accordingly. The Decendents' classic "Myage" was a blast of a showpiece. And also just a great song. More »

This Family of Data-Stealing Android Malware Got Downloaded from Google Play Millions of Times

Apr 20, 5:00PM

Everyone knows there's malware on Android, but for the most part it just hides out in the seedier back alleys of the OS. You're only likely to run into it if you start side-loading pirated apps, or frequenting sketchy unofficial app stores. But a newly uncovered family of malware—fittingly called "BadNews"—was just chillin' in Google Play, and has been downloaded somewhere between two and nine million times. In other words, a whole lot.
