This Facebook Musical Song Explains Our Addiction to Facebook
Jun 04, 5:00AM
Here's the truth: you're embarrassed by how much you use Facebook. You color your phrases about Facebook like you're not on it that much. You pretend you didn't see updates on Facebook when you really saw them the second they were posted. You hate saying you heard about something when really you read it on Facebook. You say you only started your Facebook account because of college. It's okay.

Why Is There a Hole on the Sun?
Jun 04, 3:00AM
To be honest, this image looks a helluva lot more like an eyeball or a marble than the glowing fiery orange orb floating in our sky that we call the Sun. But nope, it's our Sun all right. It looks off because the image was captured through three of NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory's extreme ultraviolet filters. But what's up with that gaping hole?

Haha, This Video Gives a Big Hilarious FU to Science (NSFW)
Jun 04, 1:45AM
Science is awesome because it can prove things like how red meat makes people happy. And cure diseases. And discover new ways to look at life. And solve problems. We need science. But science sucks when they destroy your childhood and say things like Pluto's not a planet and that dinosaurs had freaking feathers. For those things, I don't care what's scientifically correct. I want to believe!
How Wikipedia Would Have Worked in the 1980s
Jun 04, 12:45AM
I'm so thankful I never used a computer in the 1980s because it looks mind-scrunchingly frustrating. I would probably hate technology because of it. So thank you to all the patient geniuses who took the time to use things like DOS for the rest of us. Even if today's tools existed back then, it would still be so much worse with yesterday's limitations.
Can We Invent Technology to Record Our Dreams?
Jun 03, 11:45PM
Do you remember the dream you had last night? Last week? Last month? Probably not. Our sleepy imagination just vanishes without a trace. But... what if we could record our dreams? Like invent some sort of dream DVR. Then we would never forget.
What the New WWDC App Tells Us About iOS 7
Jun 03, 10:36PM
Apple's new WWDC app, meant to guide developers through next week's mega-conference, is up in the App Store today. If you look closely, you can see bits of iOS 7 in it. While it's exceedingly easy to overvalue just how much this app means—Apple surely doesn't want to tip its hand before the event—there are still some obvious visual clues as to what awaits us in iOS as a whole. Let's take a look.

Let's Hope Apple's iOS 7 Music App Is Half as Clever as This Concept
Jun 03, 9:13PM
If there's anything the internet has waxed poetic about wanting—nay—needing to see on the upcoming iOS 7 release, it's a general flat design overhaul. But while that's a completely valid demand, we've yet to hear too much about how Apple might address specific features in need of major functionality tuneups—until now, that is.

Gorgeous Windswept Photos of Dubai's Booming, Bloated Metropolis
Jun 03, 8:22PM
Ten years ago, there were more than 800 individual buildings under construction in Dubai at any given time. Today, Dubai and Abu Dhabi suffer from a vast oversupply of real estate: some claim that as much at 40 percent of buildings are vacant, though plans for more development are in the works. Matthias Heiderich, a Berlin-based photographer, captured the construction market in crisp pastel tones during a trip to both cities earlier this year.

The First Thing iOS 7 Needs to Steal from Android
Jun 03, 7:55PM
iOS 7 has a lot of catching up to do. In a relatively short time, Apple's once unimpeachable mobile platform has fallen behind Android and even Windows Phone in some key areas. iOS is still rock solid, for the most part, but it needs to take some cues from the competition. And the very first thing on that list, beyond what we already know is coming, is quick access to settings.
Cameras in the Future Might Not Need Lenses
Jun 03, 7:40PM
Every camera you've ever used in your life has a lens that focuses incoming photons on to a light-sensitive surface. But in the future, cameras might not need lenses at all, and this Bell Labs prototype illustrates how this could be done for cheap.

PSA: Don't Let Your Friends Sign Into Google On Your Computer
Jun 03, 7:20PM
In the summer of 2010 Google rolled out multiple log-ins. It was a fabulous thing for those who didn't want to run multiple browsers in order to have simultaneous access to Google-powered personal and work accounts. Merging your own accounts is one thing, but can you imagine accidentally merging yours with someone else's? It's kind of a pain in the ass to fix.

How to Hide Your House Keys in Plain Sight
Jun 03, 7:01PM
Your welcome mat is not a secure key hiding place, neither is the frame over your door or the suspicious foam-rubber "rock" lurking suspiciously next to your stoop. You might as well leave your doors unlocked. Instead hide your spare where nobody will ever think to look—right out in the open.
These Portable Speakers Are Your Go-Outside-It's-Summer Deal of the Day

You're about to spend a couple glorious months outside in the sun, and the easiest way to bring your tunes beyond the reach of a power outlet is a portable Bluetooth speaker. Good thing that both Jawbone Jamboxes just got an across-the-board price cut.
