What's With The Sudden Recoiling Mudguard Obsession On Bikes?

What's With The Sudden Recoiling Mudguard Obsession On Bikes?

We've been through a lot with slap bracelets. There were the novel years when everything seemed possible, the painful years when the cruel tide of fashion turned, and the ironic years when it seemed like anything could resurface and claim a place in hipster nostalgia. And now two different groups have Kickstarters for recoiling mudguards. But it's pretty apparent that both products are actually just big slap bracelets, rendering the whole competitive mudguard market totally absurd.

Florence and The Machine: Bedroom Hymns

Jun 03, 12:12AM

Bedroom Hymns was in an early preview of The Great Gatsby before the real soundtrack was released. It was sort of a reference to the fact that Florence and the Machine would have "Over the Love" on the soundtrack when it eventually came out. But ever since that trailer, "Bedroom Hymns" has been stuck in my head. Based on the clip of the song in the movie preview I thought one of the lyrics was "This is his party/" fitting perfectly with the whole Gatsby theme. The lyric is in fact, "This is his body/" because the song is about Jesus and I am an idiot. But there you have it.

Heineken Wanted Beer Bottles To Be Bricks For People In Need

Jun 02, 11:15PM

Heineken Wanted Beer Bottles To Be Bricks For People In Need Beer and soda companies are doing bottle redesigns left and right lately, and like so many things these overhauls seem to be motivated by brand appeal aka money. But you kind of can't blame manufacturers for wanting to, you know, sell more of their product or whatever. Free market! Anyway. It wasn't always like this. For about a minute in the 1960s Heineken tried to continue making money while doing good at the same time. And it was a great idea.

Pigeons Are Smarter Than You Might Think And Can Use Touchscreens

Jun 02, 7:38PM

Pigeons are everywhere in cities, but they don't get a lot of love. True, they can spread disease and aren't very personable, but maybe they're not getting the credit they deserve. Like city-dwelling humans they have places to be and lunch deals to scavenge. And like good urbanites (and penguins) they know their way around a touchscreen.

How Manic Are You About Organizing Emails?

I get a lot of email. Not so much that it's threatening my quality of life, but definitely a lot. I mainly use Gmail and I have some basic organizational systems in place (a label here, a star there). I have to keep up with the daily onslaught and maintain my inbox, but like I said I don't associate a lot of stress with it. Email is embedded pretty deeply in my subconscious at this point. But some people I know have organizational methods that I find scary, and any system breakdown causes them emotional turmoil. Are you intense about inbox maintenance, or do you take a come what may approach? Organize your thoughts below.

Electrified Wolverine Claws Are Fabulously Ill-Advised

I think it's safe to say that we all want Wolverine claws. Sure, working out some of the logistics would be tough at first, but come on. You would feel invincible! And you could open plastic packaging really easily. To this end, Master James made a set of great looking claws at a machine shop. But they weren't awesome enough. So he electrified them.
