Philly, First US City to Ban 3D Printed Guns "Based On Internet Stuff"
Nov 23, 3:04PM
On Thursday, Philadelphia became the first U.S. city to enact a ban on 3D printed guns. It's a pre-emptive move, because so far there hasn't been a single report of 3D printed firearms showing up in Philly. As an assistant to the bill's author told Philly Magazine, "it's just based on internet stuff out there."
How Teeth Whitening Strips Attack Stains Like Tiny Spaceships
Nov 23, 2:00PM
You pop on a goopy strip, and a short while later you've got teeth as white and gleaming as polished tile. But how do those strips work? Wired explains, and when you zoom in to the individual ions flying around, it looks a lot like a sci-fi space attack.
Antarctica looks so incredibly huge from space
Nov 23, 6:50AM
Oh wow. This incredible view of Antarctica shows it with its sea ice at its maximum, in the month of September. I never imagined it would look so goddamn huge.

One man's nocturnal emission into the pulsating streets of Paris. Drinks will be had, porn will be stolen, and balls will be played with in this night of electronic debauchery. Click through for the video with a very NSFW splash screen.
Watch what happens when graffiti artists are given a giant blank room
Nov 23, 4:41AM
When you give graffiti artists a giant empty warehouse with blank walls, what do you get? So much good stuff. It's like opening up an incredible Pandora's box of visual delight that makes you believe in magic and makes you wonder why don't we give artists more space to spray. The art was created by Sofles, Fintan Magee, Treas and Quench. The video is by Selina Miles for Ironlak films. I can watch it forever.
This Instagram movie proves that every Instagram picture is the same
Nov 23, 4:03AM
So this is cool: Filmmaker Thomas Jullien created a pretty sweet short movie by weaving together random strangers' Instagram pictures to form a story. It starts with a bike ride to Paris and zaps you to New York and pretty much everywhere else in between. 852 Instagram pictures from 852 Instagram users come together for this lovely little short but by seeing all these pictures in a pseudo stop animation you realize how similar all of our photos end up being. Nothing is original. We're all just frames in someone's next movie.
Would you want to sit in these morphing airplane seats?
Nov 23, 1:59AM
It has more or less become fact that when you pay money to travel on an airplane, you're subscribing yourself to probable gropage, uncomfortable seats, shoddy service, a few degrees of recline comfort and nuked sludge as food (if there is food). It's not pleasant. It's not futuristic. It's not fun. What if airplanes were a little bit more adaptable? Starting with the seats.
Reason for Conspiracy? 5 Mysterious Details From JFK's Autopsy
Nov 23, 1:35AM
It goes without saying that, for the past 50 years, there's been a bevy of confusion surrounding the events of JFK's assassination. Much of it has stemmed from inconsistencies in his medical records, which have long been employed to justify errant conspiracy theories putting responsibility for the fatal shot in the hands of everyone from Fidel Castro to Lyndon B. Johnson.

What the world must look like to a flying bird (hint: awesome)
Nov 23, 12:38AM
Claytonias F. traveled around America the past few months and documented it all with a quadcopter drone, a Phantom and a GoPro. The aerial views of our wonderful country are incredible to us foot worn humans but probably just a normal Wednesday for flying birds. This is probably the closest we'll come to flying. And it's close enough, I guess.

Listen To 100 White Albums Played At Once
Nov 23, 12:00AM
Rutherford Chang is a vinyl collector with a singular focus: The White Album. The New York-based artist has built up an impressive catalog of almost 700 (!) numbered copies of the 1968 double album. Taken together, his findings have become a kind of beautiful exhibition, but Chang has also recorded audio from 100 pressings, and overlaid them into a single track. And it is incredible.
Human-ish ATLAS Robot Can (Almost) Traverse a Teenager's Messy Bedroom
Nov 22, 11:20PM
ATLAS, Boston Dynamic's great robotic hope and the obvious star of DARPA's Robotics Challenge, is one of the most advanced humanoid robots ever created. It's capable of surprisingly human like movements and motions, and could one day replace soldiers in the battlefield the same way drones have replaced pilots in the skies.

Watch two old men dramatically re-enact a YouTube comment girl fight
Nov 22, 11:08PM
This is so hilariously on point. It's basically every silly Internet slap fight made infinitely fancier and thus even sillier. Seriously, watch these two old men perform a dramatic re-enactment of a YouTube comment fight over Harry Styles of One Direction between YouTubers Sophie Danze and JilianLovesTheBiebs and just enjoy the hell out of its genius. Their tone, their beats, their pronunciation of Bieber and One Direction and Harry are all just fantastic. I can watch these two guys talk about anything.

I Drank a $200 Bottle of Sam Adams For Science
Nov 22, 10:00PM
To some, beer is something you just swill down while watching football, and flavor is a distant after-thought. But others will sip and savor a beer, picking it apart like a connoisseur of fine wines. Those that comfortably sit in that second category won't think twice about dropping some hard-earned money on a bottle of finely crafted suds. But $200 for a single bottle!? That takes a special kind of person, and it had better be a special kind of beer.
The Science Of Hangovers: Causes, Cures, And Prevention
Nov 22, 9:57PM
This is one of the first rivalry weekends of the college football season, and I'll be spending it in New Haven, Connecticut, for what is perhaps the nadir of intercollegiate gridiron competition: the Harvard/Yale game. Inside the stadium, the future business leaders of America will strap on the pads and play what is expected to be a high-scoring, somewhat sloppy affair; but outside of the stadium, my friends and I will look on as thousands of twenty-somethings consume preposterous amounts of alcohol in an open field. The next day, many of these co-eds (and many more of us old farts) will wake up feeling shaky, with pounding headaches, nausea, fatigue, and perhaps a splash of diarrhea. Many will swear they're never drinking again. I know I've made that promise at least a dozen times.

Twitter's added an extra layer of encryption in part to make it tougher for the government to spy on users. The service will now use Perfect Forward Security just like Google, Mozilla and Facebook which creates unique encryption keys for each session.
An Army of the Deaf Watches Surveillance Cameras in Mexico
Nov 22, 9:40PM
Security camera footage makes some pretty boring TV. There's no sound, so you don't know what people are saying, and it's tough to read body language out of context. But that's exactly what makes deaf people the perfect workforce for interpreting the footage.
