Oct 10, 1:00PM
Fitbit did a lot of things very right when it made the One, its tiny activity-tracking pod. But then the company—caving to peer pressure from the likes of Nike—made the Fitbit Flex wristband. There's nothing wrong with that form-factor, but the Flex lost a lot of the functionality that made the One so great, and it felt like a big step backwards. Today the company is releasing the Fitbit Force, and it's exactly what the Flex should have been.

Oh So This Is Why Progress Bars on Videos Get Stuck So Often
Oct 10, 3:00AM
Even though our Internet speed is light years faster than what it was before YouTube, it still seems like videos don't load as fast as they should. Even on YouTube or Vimeo or Netflix or any streaming video website worth a damn, you run into hang ups and a stubbornly stuck progress bar for no apparent reason. Less satiable websites trap you in buffering purgatory. WHY? It doesn't make sense! The only reasonable explanation is that the lemmings behind a website who drag the progress bar have mechanical failures every single time a video loads. It's the only thing that makes sense. But eventually, we all grow up and accept the fact that real cars don't change colors (or jump through waterfalls). Or, you could hang on to those childhood dreams and paint your real car in thermochromic paint—like these crazy gearheads from the UK. Now to find a bathtub it'll fit in.
