How to Sit Correctly with Good Posture So You Don't Kill Yourself
Aug 16, 10:00AM
Are standing desks last year's advice? Whatever. Unless you're lucky enough to be on your feet all day for work, you probably sit too much. We all do. When we go home, we sit on the couch. When we have dinner, we sit on a chair. When we watch a movie, we sit in the theater. When we go out, we sit on a stool. Our life is full with sitting interrupted by little moments of walking so it's important to, well, be good at it. This animation video shows you the correct posture for sitting. A Tesla Model S Crashed Into an Electric Pole and Caused a Blackout
Aug 16, 8:00AM
Stop me if you heard this before but an electric car and an electric pole walk into a bar... Okay, seriously. This is one of those ridiculous local news stories that are too perfect to be true but actually are. A Tesla Model S crashed into a utility pole in Tennessee and caused a local blackout.
The Moto X Just Might Have the Dumbest Smartest Accessory Ever
Aug 16, 6:00AM
Motorola will be selling a $20 accessory for the Moto X that could very well be the smartest thing it has ever done or be the dumbest phone accessory ever. Called the Skip, it's a clip that houses a NFC chip that'll let you unlock your Moto X by simply tapping it. No lock screens, no pass codes.
The Weirdest Thing on the Internet Tonight: Hook
Aug 16, 4:00AM
And this is why you don't play games at the enchanted boardwalk. Did Big teach us nothing?
Hard Knocks: The Best TV Show on HBO
Aug 16, 3:00AM
If somebody says that Boardwalk Empire is the best show on HBO, I immediately discount all their future opinions. If they say The Newsroom, I automatically think they like verbal flexing. If it's True Blood, they love fleshy guilty pleasures. If they say Game of Thrones, they're... probably right. But! I would argue with them until the end of days that Hard Knocks, the fantastic documentary series on a NFL football team, is consistently better than anything else in HBO's lineup.
The NSA Oversteps Its Legal Authority and the Court Can't Stop It
Aug 16, 2:44AM
The Washington Post dropped two reports that exposes the recklessness of the NSA's spying program. The first report is insane: the NSA has "broken privacy rules or overstepped its legal authority" thousands of times a year and the second report explains the insanity: the FISC court that's supposed to be in charge of government spying programs has said that "its ability do so is limited and that it must trust the government" to report when the government has screwed up.
Beach House: Myth
Aug 16, 2:00AM
I hadn't listened to music in months. Sure, I had heard noise from the car radio gargle through as transportation distraction and of course, I embraced the magnificently uncomfortable Yeezus and duh, I still hunted down NSFW YouTube music videos but my main gateway for listening to music, an Airplay speaker, had broken down way early in the year. Which means for a while there my life's soundtrack was comforting yet depressing silence. That's not a way to live.
Jobs is a bad movie about a successful sociopath and his obsessions
Aug 16, 1:56AM
Gizmodo's Kyle Wagner nails the first Jobs biopic as a bad montage of short clips that shows the mighty Apple leader as "a sociopath who systematically ruins his and others' lives, and is rewarded lavishly for it." The only thing that seems good about the movie is Kutcher (surprise!) and the supporting cast's performance.
Scientists Finally Have a Way to Quantify Consciousness, Using Magnets
Aug 16, 1:00AM
Locked-in syndrome, where a person with a fully functioning brain is trapped in a completely paralyzed body, is one of neurology's most vexing (and terrifying) problems. Physicians and researchers have struggled for years to establish an objective way to determine level of consciousness that doesn't require patients to express themselves through some form of muscle movement. New research could hold the solution, with a technique that directly quantifies brain activity by measuring the its response to a magnetic coil.
Jobs Movie Review: A Sadly Appropriate Metaphor
Aug 16, 12:00AM
There isn't very much human about Jobs, Ashton Kutcher's Steve Jobs biopic. It's about Steve Jobs working more than it is about Steve Jobs' work. And that's probably about as unintentionally fitting a character portrait as you'll find—just not always an entertaining one.
This Spray-On Chemical Could Make Window Blinds Obsolete
Aug 15, 11:20PM
NeverWet is so 2013. The next big spray-on coating, developed by a federally-funded team working on smart windows, will use electrical currents to actually stop heat—and light—from passing through your windows. Besides being a remarkable feat of engineering, the invention could save us billions of dollars a year in energy costs.
Watch a Star Explode, Live, Right Here Right Now
Aug 15, 10:50PM
Seems like whenever a star is discovered, it's just a countdown until the inevitable crash and burn. It happened to Lindsay Lohan and Macaulay Culkin, and tonight it's happening to the just-spotted star Nova Del 2013. Located yesterday by an amateur astronomer, the erupting white dwarf is getting brighter and hotter as it heads for a violent nova explosion, and Slooh Space Camera is livestreaming the whole stellar meltdown.

Editorial for iOS: A Better, Automated Way to Edit Text on Your iPad
Aug 15, 10:00PM
Editing text on your iPad is never exactly an ideal situation, but if for whatever reason, you absolutely must, you might as well make the process as automated and painless as possible. That's what Editorial hopes to do.
US Government Finally Admits: Yes, Area 51 Exists
Aug 15, 9:54PM
It's a good day to be a conspiracy theorist. Ending a decades-long game of leak after leak without any official word, the US government has finally admitted the existence of Area 51 in a recently declassified CIA report detailing the history of the U-2.

3D-Printed Lego-Like Blocks Can Be Assembled by Robots into Spaceships
Aug 15, 9:20PM
Not too long ago, a couple of MIT scientists asked themselves a lofty question: "Can you 3-D print an airplane?" It didn't take long for them to realize that 3D printing anything on that scale was impractical. But 3D-printing thousands of small, Lego-like building blocks? That could work.
Microsoft Is Super Pissed at Google For Breaking Its YouTube App
Aug 15, 9:11PM
Earlier today, the Microsoft-built YouTube app for Windows Phone was unceremoniously disabled by Google. These kind of little inter-corporate kerfuffles happen from time to time, and usually resolve themselves without screwing too many users. But boy, Microsoft didn't take it quietly.

This Tricycle Printing Press Was the Hot New Advertising Stunt of 1895
Aug 15, 8:44PM
In an effort to stick out from the crowd, advertisers often come up with clever ways to reach consumers outside the traditional world of media. These efforts come in many names and varieties: experiential, guerrilla, wild postings, the list is seemingly endless. But despite how clever many of these marketing tactics may seem, there's almost always someone who did it first. And then there are those that someone tried a century ago that were never heard of again.
The Saga of Star Wars' Toys Is Almost Better Than the Actual Movies
Aug 15, 8:20PM
As much as the original Star Wars was a revolution in filmmaking that gave birth to the summer blockbuster, it was also responsible for the idea of marketing and merchandising the crap out of a film property. It all started with a hastily-designed line of action figures and toys that collectors are still desperate to snatch up. And if you were young enough to remember a Boba Fett figure that never actually fired rockets, you'll probably love Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys.
Sony Vaio Pro Review: Climbing a Steeper Grading Curve
Aug 15, 8:08PM
There is no joy in the Sony Vaio Pro. For a laptop that is, in substance, elegant and powerful, that's strange. It's pretty and sleek and slim, but somehow with none of the joie de vivre that typically comes along with that.
Your Smartphone Can Now Be Your Eye Doctor
Aug 15, 8:00PM
It was only a matter of time before smartphones made the transition from communication device to full blown Star Trek tricorder. And with the development of Peek (an acronym for Portable Eye Examination Kit), that transition is nearly complete.
Tag Along With the Fearless Badasses Who Clean The Windows of NYC
Aug 15, 7:45PM
Cleaning sucks, but just be happy you don't have to do it from dizzying heights. New York City's window washers cleaners have to be some of the ballsiest cleaners out there, and they dangle from buildings everyday like it's nothing. The New York Times took a closer look at their squeegee-ing heroics, and it's terrifyingly awesome.
