Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11
Mar 21, 7:28AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11 works as a laptop alternative thanks to its always-attached keyboard and myriad useful ports, and its physical flexibility provides useful ergonomic options. Brightness shortcuts on the keyboard unearth a normally buried option in Windows RT.
Bad: As a tablet, the device is too bulky and heavy to hold in your hands, and its Web performance is slow. A full Windows 8 version with updated specs will be available soon for only $150 more.
Bottom Line: The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11 is a great laptop alternative that's unfortunately too bulky to completely replace your tablet. [Read more]
Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 95412VU Dusk Black 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor(2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
Mar 21, 7:17AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 offers high-end components, including gamer-level graphics, a swappable accessory bay, and the coolest-looking backlit keyboard I've seen in a long while.
Bad: If the Y500 only had a touch screen, which is practically required for the Windows 8 UI, it might be one of my favorite laptops of the year.
Bottom Line: For those looking for something more than a feature-light ultrabook, the gamer-friendly Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is close to brilliant, and several configurations are currently available at a deep discount -- but I can't believe it doesn't have a touch screen. [Read more]
Nexus 4 Wireless Charger
Mar 21, 5:58AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Nexus 4 Wireless Charger powers phones without cords, is compact, and doubles as a convenient stand.
Bad: The Nexus 4 Wireless Charger powers just one device at a time and attracts dirt easily. It also lacks a way to alert you when its charging.
Bottom Line: The Nexus 4 Wireless Charger is convenient for Nexus 4 owners, but other solutions from Powermat and Energizer offer more extra features. [Read more]
Petting Zoo (iOS)
Mar 21, 5:39AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Petting Zoo contains uniquely hand-drawn animations and has a minimalistic, intuitive interface.
Bad: At $1.99, Petting Zoo is pricey for an app that will never receive additional chapters.
Bottom Line: Petting Zoo is a quirky and absolutely charming app, but because it's structured more like a picture book, pass it up if you're looking for a traditional level-intensive game. [Read more]

Mar 21, 5:05AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The iLuv iHP636 ReF is well built, offers a comfortable fit for an on-ear model, and includes an Apple-friendly remote/microphone and a tangle-resistant fabric covered cord.
Bad: Sound could be cleaner and more refined.
Bottom Line: While iLuv ReF headphone has a lot of pluses, including a sturdy, comfortable design, strong bass, and an Apple-friendly inline remote/microphone, it falls short in the clarity department. [Read more]
TiVo Mini
Mar 20, 7:22AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The TiVo Mini easily extends live and recorded TV from your main TiVo DVR to another room; little, lightweight box is considerably smaller than a DVR and doesn't require any additional services or equipment from your cable provider; also streams Xfinity On Demand (for Comcast subscribers) as well as other services like Hulu Plus, YouTube, and Spotify.
Bad: Only works with TiVo Premiere 4 and XL4 DVRs; currently requires a dedicated tuner from your DVR for live TV streaming; Netflix and Amazon Instant Video aren't available yet; requires wired network connections for both DVR and TiVo Mini; monthly or lifetime service fee.
Bottom Line: The TiVo Mini is an easy way to give another TV in your home access to your TiVo DVR, live TV, and streaming services. But if you're not in a hurry, you may want to wait till more features and services arrive. [Read more]

Mar 20, 6:57AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Seagate Business Storage 4-Bay NAS is a low-cost and reliable storage solution for both small businesses and consumers. Its integrated Universal Storage Module (USM) slot is a useful extra.
Bad: The Seagate Business Storage 4-Bay NAS is slow in writing and offers very few features; its USM slot's performance could be better, too.
Bottom Line: Given its relatively lower price, the Seagate Business Storage 4-Bay NAS is worth the investment. [Read more]

Sony SRS-BTV5/WHT
Mar 20, 4:44AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The SRS-BTV5 is a sleek and compact ball-shaped wireless Bluetooth speaker that offers a good feature set, including a built-in rechargeable battery, speakerphone capabilities, an auxiliary input, and NFC one-touch tap-to-pair technology.
Bad: Sound-wise it fails to distinguish itself from the pack, and the NFC technology proved problematic.
Bottom Line: The Sony SRS-BTV5 wireless Bluetooth speaker boasts speakerphone and (iffy) NFC capabilities, but it doesn't beat the competition for the price. [Read more]
Toshiba Excite 10 SE (16GB)
Mar 20, 3:37AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Comfortable feel, and a solid set of basic features for an Android tablet.
Bad: Lacks any higher-end feature sets, has a reduced set of features compared with the Excite 10, and has a cheap plastic feel. It also feels priced too high for what it is.
Bottom Line: The Toshiba Excite 10 SE looks like, and is, a generic budget-range 10-inch Android tablet...nothing more, nothing less. [Read more]
Bracketron Mi-T Grip Dash Mount
Mar 20, 2:33AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Bracketron Mi-T Grip's tacky suction cup mount holds securely to dashboard materials. Gripping claw holds phone tightly. Almost no shake when device is locked in place.
Bad: The MSRP should probably be about $10 lower. Inserting or removing a phone single-handedly is tricky.
Bottom Line: The Bracketron Mi-T Grip is (both metaphorically and literally) a solid smartphone mount for users who prefer dashboard placement. [Read more]
Philips AEA7100 StarMaker Wireless Microphone and Bluetooth Speaker
Mar 19, 11:55PM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Karaoke kit for iPad boasts wireless Bluetooth microphone and speaker; free StarMaker app handles karaoke functionality onscreen.
Bad: Without an adapter, 30-pin dock connector only works with iPad 3 and older iPads; voice delays from the Bluetooth microphone reduce the fun; there are better-sounding wireless speakers for half the price; you can't use your existing song library -- each song must be purchased separately.
Bottom Line: The Philips AEA7100 Wireless Speaker and Microphone might be worth the bucks for hard-core karaoke fans, but $180 is a lot to ask for an accessory that takes a back seat to the free StarMaker karaoke app. [Read more]
Feedly (Android)
Mar 19, 8:03AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Feedly offers curated suggestions, different layouts, and gesture-based shortcuts. Also, it is pretty darn attractive compared with other apps in its category.
Bad: Can't reorganize subscriptions from the mobile app. No two-panel view and should have one, especially on tablets. The visual appeal might be lost on news junkies who are looking for a more bare-bones reader.
Bottom Line: Feedly for Android is one of the best mobile RSS readers available. But the fact that it's a more visual, magazinelike reader could be a turnoff for those who loved Google Reader's simplicity. [Read more]
Sprint Force
Mar 19, 7:14AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Sprint Force has 4G LTE, is competitively priced, and has NFC.
Bad: The Force's photo and speaker audio quality are poor, and the touch screen is difficult to view in sunlight.
Bottom Line: With its already spotty camera and call quality, the Sprint Force can't outpace the number of other Sprint handsets that are just as inexpensive. [Read more]
Super Stickman Golf 2 (iOS)
Mar 18, 11:39PM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Super Stickman Golf 2 gives you new levels and new obstacles to the addictive arcade golf game without straying to far from the original formula.
Bad: In app purchase seems unnecessary for this game, preying on the more impulsive players among us, when gaining levels is not particularly hard to do.
Bottom Line: If you liked the first Stickman golf game and want new levels, new obstacles, and new power ups, Super Stickman Golf 2 is a worthy sequel. [Read more]
SpellTower (iOS)
Mar 18, 11:00PM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: SpellTower offers different game modes and multiplayer action, which give the game exceptional replay value. Also, it's one of the best looking word games we've seen.
Bad: Could use more special tiles. Also, more detailed stats would be nice.
Bottom Line: SpellTower is a unique word puzzle game that is well worth its price, especially since it has such high replay value. [Read more]

Telly (iOS)
Mar 16, 4:22AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: With Telly you can shoot video, add effects and theme music, and then share with Twitter, Facebook, and the Telly community. You can also view videos posted by your friends and the people and celebrities you follow on Twitter.
Bad: The video effects are pretty basic, with not a lot of variation.
Bottom Line: If you like social-video apps like Vine, but want a little more shooting time and control over the content, you should download Telly. [Read more]
Philips Room to Room Docking Speaker (DS3205)
Mar 16, 2:12AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Philips Room to Room Docking Speaker (DS3205) is a compact, stylish speaker dock for Lightning-based iPhones and iPods. It delivers good sound for its small size and has a battery-powered option.
Bad: You'll have to remove everything but the slimmest cases in order to dock your device; no USB port for charging other devices; can't play sound through auxiliary input when you have an iPhone or iPod docked.
Bottom Line: While it does have a couple of shortcomings, the Philips Room to Room Docking Speaker (DS3205) is an attractive little iPhone 5 speaker dock that sounds good for its size. [Read more]
Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5020UB
Mar 15, 3:04AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Epson 5020 projector can deliver great dark-room images yet has enough light output for moderately lit rooms, too; excellent color accuracy; deep black levels with ample shadow detail; plenty of features including motorized lens cover, horizontal and vertical lens shift, and two pairs of 3D glasses.
Bad: Black levels not quite as deep as some competitors; auto iris required for peak performance; iris still makes some noise; WirelessHD option (5020UBe) not as good a value.
Bottom Line: The Epson 5020UB projector offers excellent picture quality for the money, and is versatile enough for both dark and moderately lit rooms. [Read more]

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (16GB, Verizon Wireless)
Mar 14, 11:04PM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (Verizon Wireless) features tangible UI improvements that implement the S Pen in useful, logical, and cool ways. Its storage capacity can be expanded via microSD, and the IR blaster remains a thoughtful addition.
Bad: The price is far too high for only 16GB of native storage, and the build quality feels weaker and inelegant compared to even lower-priced tablets.
Bottom Line: A better tablet now than it was last year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (Verizon Wireless) is unfortunately still too expensive for most. [Read more]
Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx
Mar 14, 11:10AM
Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The IdeaTab Lynx is well-balanced when plugged into its keyboard base, and offers good battery life, and a bigger-screen alternative to Lenovo's other Atom tablet.
Bad: The keyboard has too much flex, and the docking hinge sticks. For only a little more, better products are available.
Bottom Line: The IdeaTab Lynx is a perfectly functional Windows 8 hybrid but lacks the lower price of some competitors, or better design and features of others. [Read more]
